laddak-the cold desert

laddak-the cold desert

The fact that attracts me most about Ladakh is that it is a cold desert situated in the lap of the mighty Himalayan range and Karakoram Range. This place will entice your heart and mind and provide you with an essence of tranquility.

I personally find Ladakh to be a very famous vacation spot and pilgrimage destination among the tourists and devotees of Buddhism. High altitude lakes, thrilling and dangerous passes, monasteries and gompas, and historical sites contribute to the blissful essence of the place.

In old times, Leh was an important trade route for trade of silk yarn, Cashmere wool, Brocade, Resins and Semi precious stones. It fell on the crossroads of old routes from Kashmir, Tibet and China. During the times of Dard colonizers, Leh used to be an important stopover Tibetan nomads and traders.

Although Leh is on the top of the world and is not that easily approachable, it has access to all the latest technology and modern facilities. It is the home to highest VSAT centre in the world. The district administration is making efforts to develop a technology society.

Trekking along the Markha River through "Little Tibet", is one of the world's highest inhabited plateaus. Here you can enjoy some spectacular views of the Great Himalayan, Ladakh and Zanskar ranges.

visit to a small monastery where butter lamps are lit morning and evening by an elderly nun These all will certainly leave indelible impressions of our journey through this gloriously illuminated landscape.
